Ink Drifts, Time Slips(2025, Electroacoustic Music)
Electroacoustic Music
April,2025
Western University
Ink Drifts, Time Slips creates a unique dialogue between music and visuals, crafting an intricate sensory experience where sound and image breathe as one. Inspired by traditional Chinese ink painting and Dunhuang murals' rich, earthy tones, the work merges multi-channel music for piano and electronics with real-time generative visuals developed in Max/MSP/Jitter.
The music unfolds as an electroacoustic journey: the piano serves as the expressive core while evolving sonic textures flow and dissolve like ink on paper. These transformations mirror the inevitability of change—not as isolated events, but as a continuous stream that never pauses. For the individual, time is always slipping forward, and in this work, change itself becomes the only constant.
The piece traces a cycle of emergence and dissolution as sound and image move in tandem. When the performance ends, all motion recedes into stillness, returning to where it began, echoing the transience of experience and the ungraspable nature of time.
