Lunar Prism(Chamber Music, LunArt, 2024)
Chamber Music
Composed in 2024.10
Performed at Madison, Wisconsin, US.
Lunar Prism is a contemporary chamber work that weaves together pentatonic theory and the traditional Chinese concept of Rotating Palace Transformation (xuan gong fan diao). Inspired by the way a prism refracts light into multiple colors, the piece unfolds as a musical journey through shifting textures and tempos.
The structure mirrors this transformation: flowing, bright passages are contrasted with slower, introspective moments, creating a sense of light bending, scattering, and reuniting. By bridging Eastern and Western musical traditions, Lunar Prism offers a radiant soundscape where cultural ideas converge in motion and stillness.
